Contract and hours: Temporary, Full-time (40hpw, 10PA's) A waiting list will be established from August 2025 to August 2026

Job summary

To share in the collective responsibility for the provision of medical care to patients within the Western Trust area, to provide leadership within his/her own specialty team and to contribute to the development of excellence in Clinical practice through research, audit and undergraduate and postgraduate training. 

This post is in a busy urology unit covering multiple sites within the catchment area served by Team Northwest Urology, base will be Altnagelvin Hospital Successful applicants will have opportunity to attend Urology OP sessions, diagnostic sessions and theatre sessions. They will also be involved in the provision of on call services at Registrar level. It would be ideal for trainees looking to either get experience in Urology or consolidate previous experience with a view to gaining the experience for application to Urology specialist training or more experienced Urologists looking for general experience in a busy unit.

Main responsibilities

  • General care of all patients in Wards 4, and Urology patients in outlying wards.
  • To assist at Out-Patient Clinics, diagnostic and operating sessions.
  • To provide accurate discharge summaries in conjunction with colleagues.
  • Will be required to take part in the General Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching. May be required to assist in the teaching of Nurses.
  • Will be expected to participate in Clinical Research projects as directed.
  • Should attend Junior Staff Committee Meetings. A Junior Doctor will be elected to represent all Junior Doctors and to attend Senior Medical Staff Committee Meetings.
  • There is a 1:5 on-call commitment with prospective cover in this post.
