Location: Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Londonderry  

Contract and Hours: Full Time (40hpw  10PAs)

A waiting list may be established for the next 12 months should another similar post arise.

Job summary

To contribute to the daily management of patients attending for regular haemodialysis. To provide specialist inpatient Renal Medicine services and appropriate links with other specialty teams. To contribute to the existing outpatient Renal Medicine services, including General Nephrology, Transplant and Low Clearance clinics. To contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with colleagues. To share in the collective responsibility for the provision of acute medical services within the Acute Directorate, Division of Emergency Care & Medicine to provide specialist input. To contribute to the development of excellence in clinical practice through research, audit and participation in clinical and social care governance. Ensure good communication with patients and relatives. Participate in the investigation of any complaints within the Directorate. Complete clinical incident report forms as per Trust Policy.

Main responsibilities

  •  Contribute to the management of Renal inpatients
  • Participation in consultant ward rounds.
  • Triage internal ward referrals and advise/support the management of Renal inpatients Providing same day emergency care.
  • Contribute to the continuing management of patients on Renal Replacement Therapy.  Liaise with other specialties and the multidisciplinary team as needed.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in initiatives to improve clinical effectiveness and maximize the use of the hospital’s facilities.
  • So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the duties of the post, the post holder undertakes, from time to time, to deputise for absent colleagues the same or other grades
  • The post holder will be expected to take continuing professional development within the guidelines set by the General Medical Council and the Royal College of Physicians.
  • To participate in regular audit.
  • Undertake resuscitation training and other statutory/clinical training sessions.
