Purpose Of Role:
To support Consultants in the provision of care to patients in Western Health & Social care Trust.
The Work Of The Department
This is a busy Department with a high throughput of patients; up to 500 major Gynae operations are performed per year and approximately 2,000 – 2,500 deliveries per year.
The Obstetric Unit acts as a secondary referral centre for the WHSCT.
Specific interest of the Unit include Ultrasound, Endoscopy and Endocrinology.
Altnagelvin is a designated Cancer Unit and accepts secondary referrals from the Western Trusts catchment population (approximately 250,000)
Duties Of Post
- General care of all patients in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Work will be flexibly and equally divided between Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Duties are based at Altnagelvin Area Hospital and assistance is required at peripheral clinics in Limavady and Strabane.
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the postholder must undertake to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues
- The postholder must undertake, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
- The doctor should attend Junior Staff Committee Meetings and might be elected to represent all Junior Staff and to attend Senior Medical Staff Committee Meetings.
