Location: Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex

Directorate: Community Dental Services

Contract and Hours: Permanent, Part-Time (22.5hpw, 3 days a week)

A waiting list may be established for the next 12 months for any permanent/temporary/full-time/part-time vacancies that arise in this specialty across the Western Trust.

Role purpose

To provide a comprehensive range of service in line with the Scope of Service Specification (2013) to include the screening and treatment of people with Special Needs, involvement in Oral Health programmes, epidemiology and other specified activities as required.

 

Main responsibilities

  • To provide dental care for priority groups and those members of the community who cannot regularly access dental care from general dental services
  • To assess patients for dental treatment under general anaesthetic and provide alternative treatment where appropriate
  • To provide dental treatment under general anaesthetic when necessary.
  • To provide treatment in various settings including clinics, domiciliary, school and hospital settings as required
  • To carry out oral health assessments of individuals in nursing, residential and day care centres as necessary
  • To liaise closely with dental therapists/hygienists in directing and supervising their work with patients
  • To be involved in promoting oral health to specific client groups as directed by the service
  • To liaise with General Dental Practitioners, hospital consultants and other staff in the dental management of patients as required
  • To participate in epidemiology/research when needed
  • To participate in quality assurance activities including appraisal, audit, peer review and in service training
  • To follow Trust guidelines in relation to record keeping, confidentiality, complaints and data protection and submit statistical returns
  • To supervise ancillary staff: to ensure the efficient running of the clinic while maintaining staff relationships and morale amongst the staff reporting to him/her.
  • To supervise students/trainees as and when required
  • Participate, as required, in the selection and appointment of staff reporting to him/her in accordance with Trust Procedures
  • To use initiative, remain flexible regarding work arrangements to meet the changing needs of the service
  • To be involved in other duties appropriate to the grade as determined by the Clinical Director
