Job Summary:
The WHSCT Clinical Fellows are exciting posts designed to allow Doctors temporarily outside of training to gain experience of their preferred specialty whilst expanding and enhancing their CV and competitiveness.
This is a non-postgraduate training role, which will strengthen our operational Emergency Department team. The purpose of this post is to support Emergency Department clinical work alongside senior medical staff. It will also allow the successful candidate to pursue an interest in Medical Education, Simulation and Quality Improvement.
The post forms a core component of the medical staffing. The successful applicants will join a team of Consultants, specialty doctors, trainees and nursing specialist practitioners to deliver high quality services to Emergency Department patients. They will be responsible for the initial assessment of new attenders and re-attending patients, and will initiate investigations and plan and deliver appropriate care for these patients. They will also be required to liaise with specialty teams concerning patients who require specialty input or admission and for effective liaison and seamless medical care for such patients.
Key Result Areas / Main Responsibilities:
- Providing same day emergency care.
- Establishing an investigation program and initiating a management plan.
- Liaise with other specialties and the multidisciplinary team as needed.
- The post holder will have protected, supported and supervised 8 hours per week to allow them to pursue an interest in either: Medical Education and Simulation; Quality Improvement; or a Sub-Specialty (e.g. Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Anaesthetics, ACU) subject to agreement.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in initiatives to improve clinical effectiveness and maximize the use of the hospitals facilities.
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the duties of the post, the post holder undertakes, from time to time, to deputise for absent colleagues the same or other grades
- The post holder will be expected to take continuing professional development within the guidelines set by the General Medical Council and the Royal College.
- To participate in regular audit.
- Undertake resuscitation training and other statutory/clinical training sessions.
