Job summary
- The nursing assistant is a valued team member who is required to assist in the provision of safe effective compassionate patient centred care.
- The post holder will assist patients in all aspects of the activities of daily living and carry out other duties delegated by registered nursing staff.
- The post holder will undertake physiological observations/ clinical duties as required in ward/department.
- The post includes day and night duty, evenings, weekends and bank holiday shift working rostered shifts to meet the needs of the service as required.
Main responsibilities
- Respect the dignity, wishes and beliefs of all patients.
- Obtain consent from patients for all care and treatment provision. Have an awareness of the Mental Capacity Act and what constitutes deprivation of liberty (DOLs)
- Report and where appropriate accurately record all activities undertaken.
- Undertake and accurately record physiological observations /clinical duties as required in ward/department under guidance of RN.
- Assist the patient to participate in agreed programmes of care, including TEACHH & positive behaviour support (PBS).
- Assist the patient to participate in agreed programmes within the community.
- Accompany patients on social/recreational outings as appropriate.
- Communicate with keyworker re patient progress as requested.
- Observe and report changes in patient’s behaviour/condition.
- Other duties as indicated in the individual care plans or ward plan.
- Work in a person centred, non-averse manner, and promoting positive outcomes for each patient in line with their plan of care.
- To actively participate in the development and maintenance of a warm, supportive, recovery focussed environment.
