Job summary

To support Consultants in the provision of care to patients in Western Health & Social Care Trust.

Main responsibilities

The Successful Applicant will share the day-to day care of in-patients, participate in Consultant and Registrar Ward Rounds, Consultations in Accident & Emergency, Surgical Wards and Medical wards as appropriate to the discipline in which they are engaged.

  • You will participate on a 1 in 8 rota within ICU, being the first point of contact for nurses and the hospital in general.
  • You will be supported by the Anaesthetic registrar and SHO both in and out of hours. Consultants will be available in person and by phone at all times.
  • You will be taught about all aspects of physiology and pharmacology specific to ICU critically unwell patients, be responsible (with training) for the insertion of invasive lines- arterial central, dialysis, percutaneous tracheostomies etc.
  • You will be taught extensively on equipment, physiology, medicine and surgery to prepare you for either a career in ICU/Anaesthesia, or to increase your confidence in managing critically unwell patients in the future.
  • We will provide you with experience in theatres to teach you aspects of advanced airway management and general anaesthesia.
