Job summary
The Clinical Fellows(s) are at the heart of the medical workforce in the Emergency Department at the South West Acute Hospital.
Our goal is to provide safe, effective, high quality emergency care in a timely, cost-effective and sustainable manner.
The Clinical Fellow(s) will undertake the initial assessment, resuscitation, diagnosis and treatment of all acutely ill or injured patients attending the ED and will be supervised and supported on a day to day basis by the middle grade doctors and the Consultants in Emergency Medicine.
The Clinical Fellow(s) will be supported by dedicated Educational and Clinical Supervisors who are GMC recognised trainers aligned with their special interest.
The job plan is a full shift rota with no on call commitment. The Clinical Fellow(s) will have up to 8 hours per week of dedicated time to pursue a CV enhancing special interest.
Special interests which can be supported include acute medicine, intensive care medicine, medical education / simulation and pre-hospital care.

Main responsibilities
- To undertake the initial assessment, resuscitation, diagnosis and treatment of all acutely ill or injured patients attending the ED.
- To participate in the supervision and training of medical students and nursing staff.
- To participate in the multidisciplinary teaching programme in the ED.
- To maintain a close and supportive working relationship with medical, nursing, paramedical, allied health professional and management colleagues.
- To participate in clinical governance activity in line with ED and Western Health and Social Care Trust requirements.
- To participate in CPD activity, appraisal and revalidation in line with Royal College of Emergency Medicine, Western Health and Social Care Trust and General Medical Council requirements.
