Stewarts Care is a long-established voluntary organisation providing comprehensive community-based services to people with intellectual disabilities.
We support people across a wide range of services within residential settings, day services, supported independent living, job advocacy and vocational training.
Purpose of the Post:
To work as part of the Equine Therapy team at Stewarts Care involves assisting the Equine Therapy Manager to develop, organise and implement our Therapeutic Equine Programme. We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Equine Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of equine care, training and welfare, a patient demeanour, and a commitment to providing fun, safe and beneficial experiences for our riders.
Candidates must meet the following criteria relevant to the role:
- Previous experience as an equine instructor, riding coach, or similar role (minimum 1-2 years preferred). Valid riding qualifications (e.g., BHS, ABRS) preferred but not essential.
- Experience working with horses, preferably in a riding school/therapeutic riding environment.
- Strong understanding of equine behaviour, training and handling techniques.
- A passion for equine welfare and commitment to promoting safe and effective riding practices.
- Experience working with riders of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced levels.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with riders of all ages and abilities.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- Strong stable management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons.
- Experience in maintaining accurate records and handling administrative tasks.
- Full Manual Drivers Licence and willingness to drive as part of the working day is essential
Please Note: This position requires you to be fit to ride and work on the ground with horses daily
Salary and qualifications are in accordance with Department of Health consolidated pay scales: Care Assistant scale: €34.036-€47,454 per annum incl LSI (pro-rata)
