This Service operates on a 24 hour, 7 days per week including Holidays and shifts will be required to cover.

Job summary
The person appointed will be a multi skilled person working within a team to provide a high quality standard of services across Portering and Security in Altnagelvin Hospital examples of duties include: Patient Transfer, waste, Post, Pharmacy and Lab duties, First responder to emergency and security incidents. He/she will be expected to have excellent communication skills and the ability to read and record information accurately. He/she must ensure support and comply with Trust policies and procedures and reflect positively the Trusts core values. He/she will be expected to develop and maintain a good working relationship with all grades of staff within the trust as well as external agencies, eg officers from the NI Fire and Rescue and PSNI. You will work within the delegated authority of Support Services
Main responsibilities
- Assist in transportation of patients to and from the various Departments, as required.
- Collection and disposal of refuse and clinical waste and maintenance of waste collection area. To include the operation of waste compacters. Reporting of any damage or malfunction.
- Collection, sorting and delivery of post as required from departments within the hospital, receipt and distribution of internal and external mail to include special/recorded mail.
- Movement, collection, delivery and distribution of items such as laundry, food trolleys, specimens, bloods, samples, medical gasses, general stores and other items throughout the hospital in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the delivery and security of radiotherapy drugs, pharmacy controlled drugs, chemotherapy pharmacy fridge items. Along with the signing of any relevant documentation to this task.
- Responsible for collection delivery and signing of all blood units, platelets, and blood products along with the verification and signing of documents relating to this task.
- Responsible for the changing of all types medical gases cylinders in clinical areas and manifold rooms. Accessing the areas via control panels and keypad alarms and the recording/updating of the log books as required.
- Assist in the movement of furniture and office moves, organise facilities for meetings/conferences etc.
- To carry out cleaning duties as directed in line with Trust procedures.
- Responsible as a key holder with access to keys and alarm codes and doors codes for departments and hospital site.
- Porters will be assigned responsibility for carrying and responding to all emergency bleeps, responding to requests for assistance to incidents and tasks relating to these e.g. Helicopter landings, major haemorrhage protocol etc.
- Removal of the deceased from theatres/resus and other wards to Mortuary in accordance with Trust procedures. The recording/signing of any forms/ documentation relevant to this task.
- Security of Trust Property checking doors, windows, lights and security devices as per schedule.
- To respond immediately to requests for assistance from patients, staff or visitors.
- To ensure noise levels within key worker accommodation are kept to a minimum and record any incidents appropriately.
- Responsible for following the procedure of the arrival of emergency helicopter landing.
- Monitoring of car parking to include traffic management and issue of parking notices as required.
- Provide relief cover to switchboard/helpdesk/reception including, dealing with enquires from staff and general public.
