Job summary
The Support Worker is part of the Day Care Staff Team whose function is to attend to the personal needs of members under the direction and supervision of their Day Care Worker and Senior Day Care Worker.
Main responsibilities
· To accompany and supervise adults with a Learning Disability on the bus/taxi to and from their home, social outings and personal appointments. (Residential/Respite requirement only)
· To adhere to all Trust Policies and Regulatory Requirements at organisational and departmental level. for Health and Safety Regulations
· Ensure that all information specific to the service user is shared with relevant personnel
· To provide, where appropriate, personal assistance to service users such as bathing, washing, toileting, dressing and feeding in accordance to their individual care plans
· Ensure service users’ clothing is clean, well maintained at all times
· Staff must act professionally at all times
· Report to the person in charge any untoward incidents, falls, accidents, complaints etc. and contribute to the maintenance of appropriate records within the established procedures
· Assist in the provision of individual and group programmes of care
· Assist with the preparation, serving and supervision of meal times
· Administer First Aid
· Be available to listen and talk to service users
· To drive Non PSV type vehicles as and when required and be willing to undergo training to maintain D1 registration on your Driving Licence. If your Driving Licence is not registered under D1 then you must be willing to undergo training to achieve this
· Physically fit in order to take part in all mandatory training i.e. Managing Actual or Potential Aggression (MAPA) and Manual Handling
· Organise and participate in recreational trips e.g. sport, social etc. and programmes and activities
· Accompany service users, when appropriate, to locations outside the facility e.g. College, Supportive Employment Schemes and social outings
· Attend and contribute to Person Centred Planning meetings of service users when required
· Contribute to the maintenance of records required by the Trust
· Full participation in all mandatory training and other courses, as appropriate
· Post holder must participate in staff meetings, regular supervision and staff appraisal sessions with Senior Staff (as per WHSCT Policy and Regulatory Requirements)
· Assist with exercise programmes, occupational, physio and speech therapy as required
· Doing such other caring orientated tasks as may be required
· Handling and Administration of medication as per Facility Policy and Procedure
· Ensure that equipment and materials used for personal care are kept appropriately
· General Cleaning Duties
