Contract and hours: Temporary until the 30th of August 2026 (10PA's)
Purpose of Post:
The successful candidate will be one of a team of 10 consultants who provide on-call cover, outpatient and theatre work. This is a consultant led service providing the full range of inpatient and outpatient obstetrical and gynaecological services including colposcopy, urodynamics, outpatient hysteroscopy and gynae-oncology, within the northern sector of the Western Trust. These services are provided at Altnagelvin Hospital, as well as a range of outpatient services at Roe Valley Hospital (Limavady) , Omagh and Strabane.
The whole time equivalent Obstetricians/Gynaecologists operate a 1:9 ‘on-call’ rota with a pro rata prospective cover arrangement. The appointment of new consultants may reduce the on- call commitment. The current consultant team provide resident 60 hour week labour ward cover. The unit facilitates approximately 2500 births per year.
The consultant team are supported by Junior Medical staff consisting of 2 Specialty doctors, 8 Specialty trainees/ trust doctors and 8 ST1-2/GP/ FY2 trainees.
Duties Of The Post:
The appointee will:
- Share responsibility for inpatient, outpatient and day care services within the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Work within the Directorate as a member of the team thus ensuring continuity of approach and care
- Be responsible to the Clinical Director for the maintenance of personal professional standards
- Participate in the night and weekend on-call rota with the other consultants in the Department. The on call supplement is dependent on the number of WTE consultants participating in the on call rota.
- Be expected to participate in the teaching and assessment of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate medical staff
- Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement and, where suitable, apply the results to improve the service
- Commit to maintaining knowledge, skills and expertise through Continuing Professional Development. Funded study leave will be available. The post- holder will be expected toenrol in the CME programme of the RCOG
- Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care in order that arrangements are in place to meet specified quality standards
- Undertake, when required, administrative duties within the Directorate
