Job summary

To support the assigned Surgical Consultant of the day in the Surgical Ambulatory unit in the care of unselected acute adult surgical patients from either General Practice, or the Emergency Department. To also offer management of early returning patients who have recently been discharged from the surgical wards, this may be both adult and paediatric patients

Main responsibilities

  • The main focus of this post will be the clinical assessment and management of acute surgical patients in the Ambulatory Surgical Unit
  • The post holder will, in conjunction with the Consultant, organise the attendance, management and care of patients admitted to ASU
  • The post holder will participate in the teaching and training of both resident doctors and medical students
  • The post holder will supervise both resident doctors in the CT, FY2 and FY1 grades
  • He/she will be expected to undertake continuing medical education (CME/CPD) and revalidation
  • He/she will participate in multi-professional audit and educational activities within the Unit and Directorate
  • He/she will has access to secretarial services and provision of a shared computer
  • He/she can, upon local agreement with clinical leads partake in on calls at CT1/2 level

 

Any changes to the working arrangements will be by means of discussion and agreement with the post holder
