Location: Waterside Hospital, Gransha, Londonderry 

Contract and Hours: Temporary / Full-Time (10 PAs) until 6 October 2027

Job summary

The successful candidate will share in the current work of the department and work to expand the services provided both at inpatient and outpatient level. He/she will be expected to develop close working relationships with his/her colleagues in the Hospital at Home service and Altnagelvin Hospital and with colleagues in primary and community care sectors with the aim of providing comprehensive, integrated, programmes of care for elderly patients.

Main responsibilities

  • The post holder will deliver a high standard of inpatient and outpatient care.
  • The post holder shall, through leadership, encourage and maintain multi-disciplinary work within his/her workplace.
  • The post holder will liaise with medical practitioners and other health care professional in order to ensure a high standard in provision of services.
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise with medical staff within and across Trusts in matters con-cerning DoH planning, teaching, and further education.
  • The post holder will be expected to engage in medical and clinical audit and resource management in order to further develop and further the evolution of his/her services. Audit is encouraged and time will be made available for this activity
  • The post holder will assist with the provision of teaching and training of doctors in training. The post holder will contribute to undergraduate medical teaching within the directorate.
  • The post holder will provide cover for colleagues when they are on professional or annual leave. Col-leagues are not expected to provide cover for extended periods of sick leave.
  • The post holder will maintain his/her own continuing professional development (CPD) in line with the Trust’s Strategy on Clinical governance. Reimbursement of expenses for study and professional leave will be in line with nationally agreed terms and conditions of service.
  • The post holder will participate in the Consultant Appraisal system operational in the Trust.
  • The post holder will participate in annual job planning.
  • The post holder will maintain registration with the General Medical Council and a Licence to Practice.
