Contract and hours: Permanent or Temporary / Full-Time 40hpw 10PA’s (A waiting list may be established for the next 12 months should another similar post arise)

Job purpose

The purpose of these new posts is to support the expansion of oncology/radiotherapy services and provide an effective and efficient Oncology service of optimal quality within the contract resources available to Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT). The service delivers chemotherapy, radiotherapy and cancer outpatient services that are provided by Consultant Oncologists, Speciality Doctors and Specialty Trainees. In addition, these posts will help support Acute Oncology Services for the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

 

Main responsibilities

The successful applicant will share the day to day care of in-patients under the care of the Oncology Consultants, including participation in Consultant Ward Rounds, performing Out-Patient Clinic duties and consultations as appropriate to the discipline

  • The post holder will work as part of a team with a strong multidisciplinary emphasis. The importance of teamwork and good interpersonal/ communication skills are emphasised as essential aspects of the post.
  • The duties will involve the day to day care and management of patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and palliative care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • The post holder will provide acute oncology service which includes assessing patients in triage, A&E or other wards providing support for their medical / surgical teams as well as participate in the On-call rota.
  • Doctors are encouraged to accrue evidence of departmental responsibility, particularly through a collaborative approach to ensuring adequate ward cover while allowing colleagues to take appropriate leave, participation in departmental meetings, working with consultants to organise (e.g. “office work” and audits of importance to service improvement), clinical administration and dealing with correspondence.
